A message and update from our OWCC Chairman (21st May 2020)
Dear All
Firstly I hope this update finds you and your families all safe and well during these difficult and strange times.
On behalf of the OWCC committee, I wanted to provide you all with an update on what has been going on behind the scenes during the crisis in relation to the club and clubhouse. As many of you are aware the club and ground were badly affected over the winter suffering severe flooding and storm damage to the roof. We have successfully progressed the insurance claims so that significant works at the club have been undertaken including; roof repair, strip out of clubhouse – floors, damp plaster, kitchen and soft furnishings. A deep clean and drying process has been completed and we are awaiting the installation of a damp proof membrane, flood barriers on external doors, kitchen units, decoration to the clubhouse and new furniture. We anticipate this work to be completed within 4 to 6 weeks. To help finance these projects we have been able to secure additional money from the ECB Emergency Funds programme.
When cricket does return, you the playing members, and your friends and family will have the use and enjoyment of a fully refreshed and renewed clubhouse.
In relation to the Corona crisis and the commencement of the 2020 season, we are obviously being impacted like any other organisation. As a club, our primary concern is for the well-being of our members, guests and visiting players and we will only commence normal club activity when safe to do so. We are following all the directions and guidelines as provided by the Government and ECB in this regard. To support the club financially through this period we have been able to secure a Small Business Grant from Woking Borough Council. On the field, we are still preparing the outfield and square as we would under normal circumstances and there is regular grass cutting and rolling activity. Should we be able to do so, the club will be in a great position to host games later this season as and when the time comes (we do not expect the All-Stars programme to run at all this season due to its normal conclusion in July).
In addition to all of the above activity, we can also confirm the launch of our brand new website – www.oldwokingcricketclub.com – this is a much-needed addition to our online presence and links to all of our social media accounts and other applications. We hope you enjoy using it and please do share with friends and family so we can continue to attract new players and their families.
On a personal note, I would like to sincerely thank Vic Shipp in his diligence pursuing our insurance claims and securing both the ECB and WBC Funding. Also PJ for his work overseeing the contractors and Sravan for the work in creating our new website.
Now, a request to our members to help us get through this crisis together – please can you pay your annual subscription as soon as possible. The membership fee is an annual one and not just for the Summer months. We have on-going costs being incurred throughout the year and to avoid a financial loss this year we must collect all of our playing membership fees. As you can imagine the loss of cricket means we have no income from matches or the bar and so are extremely reliant upon all of our members contributing to the best of their ability financially. So please get those subs paid ASAP? We are more than happy to discuss payment plans with any members who would prefer this.
£90 for adults/ £45 for Students & Colts

We will try and arrange an online quiz night so we can have a virtual beer together and see some friendly faces – Cat will be in touch with details soon.
Please keep safe all and we look forward to seeing you all later this summer.
Kindest regards
Matt Prisco
